The researchers gathered “data on blood pressure, body mass index (weight) and lifestyle factors (meals eaten away from home/week, physical activity), and their association with prehypertension or hypertension was determined.”1
High blood pressure is a leading risk factor linked to cardiovascular disease. Studies show that young adults with borderline high blood pressure are at high risk for high blood pressure. Fast food and restaurant food are usually high in saturated fats, high in salt, and high in calories. Eating this type of food is thought to cause high blood pressure. “What is also significant is that even eating one extra meal out, raise the odds of prehypertension by 6%.” 2
Researchers found young adults who ate more meals away from home per week, weighed more, and had low physical activity had prehypertension or hypertension.1
